First fix MEP installation is now progressing at pace across the ground floor of Cockpit's main 1960s building. DBS Group, the mechanical and electrical subcontractor, have significant manpower on site: lighting is going up in several areas, distribution boards are being installed, and the new MVHR system serving the rear studio building is connected and operational.

Working with Max Fordham, we designed a services approach that takes the existing building seriously. Galvanised conduit runs surface-mounted on the original concrete structure, reading as an honest addition rather than something disguised. New partitions carry concealed distribution. The coordination between new and existing has required close management throughout first fix — regular on-site workshops with DBS and Max Fordham have been the main tool for resolving clashes and confirming setting-out before walls close up.
