The structural frame of Cockpit's new rear studio building is now complete. The glulam arrived on site in mid-June and was installed within days; the SIPs roof panels followed, with the building weathertight by the end of the month.

The new studio block sits in the rear yard of Cockpit's existing Deptford site and is designed to provide dedicated making space for a small number of resident practitioners. The structure combines a glulam portal frame with SIPs wall and roof panels, external Forticrete 'Flint' blockwork, and Velfac triple-glazed windows and doors. Eternit cladding goes on next week. The choice of materials was deliberate: robust enough for an active making environment, low enough in embodied carbon to align with Cockpit's values, and honest about how the building is put together.
