With close to 25 years' experience, Francis specialises in adaptive reuse and retrofit, particularly the integration of energy-saving measures within historic structures. He combines technical problem-solving with strategic project delivery, managing complex stakeholder relationships and securing planning permissions for challenging sites.

At Cooke Fawcett, Francis has led the delivery of award-winning projects including Cockpit Studios Deptford (£2.25m cultural building, AJ Retrofit Awards Highly Commended 2025, RIBA and Civic Trust shortlisted), Peckham Watchmakers' Factory (£2.75m manufacturing space, NLA finalist 2025), and Quidhampton Mill House and Studio (RIBA South finalist, AJ Small Projects finalist 2025). Current major projects include South Street Mayfair (£5m listed building retrofit) and Aldersgate House (£4m office refurbishment).

Francis was Design Fellow at the University of Cambridge (2016-21), teaching undergraduate architecture students, and has been an invited critic and lecturer at several UK universities and the Bauhaus, Germany.

Earlier in his career, Francis worked at Herzog & de Meuron (2008-15) where he was Senior Architect on the Tate Modern Extension (with a particular focus on the insitu concrete spiral stairs) and Project Architect for the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford (RIBA Stirling Prize nominated, BREEAM Excellent). He also worked on Lord's Cricket Ground masterplan, Roche Tower Basel, and Basel Exhibition Centre. Prior to that he worked at Make Architects (2004-06).

Francis studied at the University of Cambridge and ETH Zürich, gaining his Diplom in 2007.
