Direct commission for a reconfiguration and major refurbishment of a terraced Victorian house in Tufnell Park, Islington.
The existing house already had a highly glazed rear corner to the garden – complete with a vine growing inside. The kitchen was reconfigured to make best use of the narrow space and improve the connection to patio and garden. The study/guest bedroom now makes the most of the view out to the garden with a full-width panoramic window over the double-height internal space.
Most work was done to bedrooms and bathrooms at upper levels, including making a dressing room and ensuite for the master bedroom, and rearranging the partitions for childrens’ bedrooms. Removal of two rear chimney breasts allows far more flexible spaces, and the structural work has been done to enable a loft conversion in the future as children grow up, with a space for stair up already planned in.
The result is a much stronger connection to the garden as one enters the house – taller, wider doors to kitchen and study above allow more light and views through.
