Direct commission for two extensions and full refurbishment of an existing L-shaped single-storey house near Croftamie, Scotland.
The larger extension forms a new accommodation wing containing three new bedrooms, including a tall master bedroom suite with a large framed view out to the nearby fields and hills beyond. A new dining room extension adjacent to the existing kitchen creates a light-filled space for family life with a large window to Ben Lomond to the north, and with sliding doors opening up to a south-facing terrace — a morning and lunchtime sun trap. Loft spaces are to be converted to additional guest accommodation, with new stairs and bathrooms.
The new extensions and existing roof spaces will be highly insulated, with high-performance new windows and a ground-source heat pump to a nearby pond to provide energy-efficient heating.
New walls will be faced in local rubble-stone with poured concrete lintels over window and door openings, and slate roofs will echo the existing building in material and pitch angle. Internally the refubished and new spaces will share a material range of light-finished oak floors, timber joinery, and areas of exposed ceiling structures.
